Please, mark this information as outdated. This might be the first site found by person who searches for advice on Watchtower Library installation on linux. Most of the steps listed here are no longer necessary, or may even prevent wine from working correctly. Plus there is a licensing question on comctl32 usage.

dude this one's easy. you need to have both CUPS and HPLIP installed. just open a shell terminal in ubuntu, and use the command:

sudo apt-get install cups hplip

when its done, just point the hplip driver to the IP address of the 6300 and itll work just fine.

Thanks for this. Is it viable to copy programs here at boot time so that they'll run faster, or is something like preload a better option?

Nicholas: My original post was wrong. You should rename the libcrypto.so.0.9.8 file.

I installed GE by opening a terminal window and using sudo to install it. This installs it for all users on your computer and places it in /opt/google-earth. If you installed it as a normal user, it will be installed in /home/USERID/google-earth

Open the google-earth folder (either in /opt or in your home directory)

Find the file named libcrypto.so.0.9.8

Right click on it and select Rename

Add a .bak extension to it and press ENTER.

I'm having the same set of troubles with ubuntu 8.10 and GE 5.0, but I don't have a google-earth folder in opt, or anywhere in File System for that matter---just the GE icon on my desktop.
Renaming that libssl file (of which I've found four) is also something I don't know how to do.

Hi, in looking for a solution to the same problem now that I've updated my Dapper 32 bit to a Hardy 64 bit fresh installation, Google seems to have brought me right back to the same place! So, I have gone through all the same steps as before based on your instructions, but this time I am running into errors when I do the 'make check' step. It appears to be reporting errors related to libical (see below). When I look at the libical info on sourceforge, there seems to be a lot of related looking bugs posted starting in September 2008. I wonder whether it would be possible to use a prior version of libical to get around the errors? I'm no compile/make/install expert... but I tried seeing what version of libical was installed on my box and Synaptic says there is none. So I think it must be included in the jp-icalendar source?

Anyway, if you can offer any suggestions for how to get past this error, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Don

Thx, just what I was looking for.

I was just wondering if, since you are able to get WT-Lib (Windows software) working Linux, if anyone would be able to get the Windows Mobile version of WT-Lib 2008 to work on Symbian - would be nice to have it running on my Nokia smartphone. I realise Wine is just an emulator, but it can't hurt to check.

I was having no success getting WT Library 2007 to run in Wine 1.0 (in Ubuntu 8.10). However, I uninstalled Wine completely and then followed Joel's suggestion above for reinstalling Wine.

By Joel, October 31, 2008 @ 11:33 pm
Ran ’sudo apt-get install wine msttcorefonts’.

After doing this Wt Lib works great! Thanks to all for your input.

I installed WTLib 2007 using wine 1.0 and Ubuntu 8.10, no issues. (and the Default Asus EEE Xandros - Advanced Desktop) However, you can likewise try CodeWeaver Crossover (Linux - and I imagine that Crossover for Apple works too) and that should be successful as well. Crossover will set up back by $39.99 USD for Standard Edition, but set-up is flawless. That said, getting the most recent version of wine should run WTLib 2007 without any issues. Just make sure to apt-get update everything.

That said, I have plans on making a basic linux with wine livecd that will run WTLib...

Thanks

Scott, I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10.
Ran 'sudo apt-get install wine msttcorefonts'.
Popped the WTLibrary in and ran the 'setup.exe'.
When the install was finished I double clicked the icon on the desktop and everything worked; including the pop-up tool-tips and icon backgrounds.

I did not have to download any custom fonts nor override the comctl32.dll library. It all 'just worked'.

If you still have problems, try renaming your .wine directory to .wine.bak and then run 'winecfg' to create a new .wine directory. Then reinstall wtlibrary. If that works then your original .wine is misconfigured somewhere.

Hope this helps.

If installing Wine seems like WAY too much overhead simply to run IMG2GPS, just grab the Linux version of sendmap20 from the cgpsmapper site.

IMG2GPS is simply a GUI frontend for sendmap, so you can leave out the middleman.

Wael,

On the Unix/Linux server, you have a user directory based on your login id. On most servers it located in the /home directory. The UNIX_ID is the name you use to login into the server.

So if your login name is 'gumby' do this after ssh'ing into the server:

cd /home/gumby/.ssh

(Note the dot before ssh. Directories begining with a dot are hidden from normal directory listings.)

Then look for a file called 'authorized_keys2'. If it does not exist then create it and paste your public key into the file.

Hope this helps.

Justin, the icon that gets created on your desktop during the install from the CDROM and that also gets installed on the Applications/Wine menu contains a path statement that does not get displayed when select properties on the icon.

If you try and launch directly from the command line, or if you create your own launcher icon from scratch it won't work. If you created your own launcher, find it in your Home .local directory and add this path statement to the .desktop file:
Path=/home/jgott/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Watchtower/MEPSCommon

Make sure to change 'jgott' to your login name.

That should make it work. Otherwise, I don't what the problem is.

Please note: I do not consider to set 127.0.0.1 to other than localhost.

You can add a definition like:
10.10.0.5 host.domain.example host

Where 10.10.0.5 is the IP address of your network card. Also setting:

DHCP_HOSTNAME=

is not necessary if you do not want to send the host-name to you DHCP Server.

Best Regards
Marcus

David, what repositories are you using to be able to install "build-essential bison flex libxft-dev" packages? I tried the debian repositories but libxft-dev is looking for libfontconfig1-dev which is not available in the repositories, according to synaptic.

Thanks in advance!

I finally got WTLib 2007 installed on my eeepc running the native Xandros. I had to compile wine from scratch. Here is the basic procedure:
1.. sudo apt-get install build-essential bison flex libxft-dev
2. Download wine-1.0.tar.gz, copy it to /usr/src
3. cd /usr/src
4. tar -xzf wine-1.0.tar.gz
5. cd wine-1.0
6. sudo ./configure
7. sudo make (this takes about 1-2 hours)
8. sudo make install
9. Attach a cdrom drive with the WTlib CD (or make an .iso file and mount that if you don't have an external CD Rom drive)
10. cd /home/user/D\:/
11. wine setup.exe (install as you normally would)
You may start running into disk space issues (compiling wine will take 300-400mb, but you can delete the /usr/src/wine-1.0 directory after everything is done). To ease disk space problems, I linked the Watchtower directory to my SD card with the following commands:
1. sudo mkdir /home/user/D\:/Watchtower
2. sudo cp -r /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower/* /home/user/D\:/Watchtower
3. mv /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower1
4. ln -s /home/user/D\:/Watchtower /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower
5. Try running WT Library. If it works, delete /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower1

Hope this helps

You may start running into disk space issues (compiling wine will take 300-400mb, but you can delete the /usr/src/wine-1.0 directory after everything is done). To ease disk space problems, I linked the Watchtower directory to my SD card with the following commands:
1. sudo mkdir /home/user/D\:/Watchtower
2. sudo cp -r /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower/* /home/user/D\:/Watchtower
3. mv /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower1
4. ln -s /home/user/D\:/Watchtower /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower
5. Try running WT Library. If it works, delete /home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Watchtower1

Hope this helps
David

Thanks for the info, this helped me to figure out how to get this installed on my Dapper Ubuntu release machine. Had to add a bunch more packages (to get GTK+ development files, pilot-link headers, etc.) but finally got there. While the .ics import does not handle the time zone correctly for me, the import sure beats a slew of copy/paste actions. I'm happy to adjust the times for the appt. myself afterwards.

BTW, 'cd jp-calendar' should be 'cd jp-icalendar' in your second code box.

Thanks!

Hi everybody!

Is anybody able to help me install Chinese Character (fonts) support for Wine? I was able to install Chinese Wtlib 2007 but when I try to launch it I get an unreadable error message (the characters just display little squares).

The French version of Wtlib is running fine though.

i just finished installing Wtlib 2007 on my asus eee pc running linux. it is possible! the basic idea is that you have to copy the wtlib cd as a iso file and then copy that to a usb drive. once the iso file is mounted you install it as directed above. worked great. hope that helps you out.

Dennis, you need something line 'bcharge' (part of the blackberry tool package) to bump up the current on the usb port when the Razr is plugged in. See http://www.blackberryforums.com/linux-users-corner/65653-howto-use-bcharge-charge-your-bb-under-linux.html

I haven't experimented with this but you may be able to tweak the code to get it to see the Razr.

with wine 1.0-rc1 the setup runs OK but I always get the message that Wtlibrary cannot find its data files. It doesn't matter if I run wtlibrary.exe from MEPSCommon and point to the .exe or run in ../Watchtower\ Library\ 2007/X. This is on a Debian testing system. I chowned the .wine directory to my user but it doesn't help any. Maybe some kind soul has a hint for me. Thanx, Eike

Dennis, the phone will trickle charge when plugged into any usb port. If you have the correct drivers they will instruct the usb port to increase current and fast charge the phone. Either way the phone will charge; either slow or fast.

It is easy to install under windows. Just double click.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 Beta with a KDE desktop under VirtualBox and thought I would try this out to see if it would get through the virtual computer.

I will pass. Really have better stuff to do.

Chalk one up for Windows over Linux.

you might want to interject this into the guide for x64 users:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

do this at or after installing upx-ucl-beta
(sudo apt-get install upc-ucl-beta ia32-libs)

This resolved my tunecfg issue in Ubuntu 8.04 Beta (64) when I went to install it on my laptop.
Regards,

if you dont want to authenticate each time, just add a line to the file $HOME/.davfs/secrets with the resource name and user and pass like this:

I would suggest doing the Following:
Just after unpacking the hamachi file (the tar.gz) do the following:
sudo apt-get install upx-ucl-beta

Once that is done, do the sudo make install hamachi, then run:

sudo upx-ucl-beta -d hamachi
sudo sh tunecfg/tunecfg

the latest (hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-lnx) unpacks tunecfg into its own sub folder in the folder hamachi unpacked into.
you can continue with the install and it should go well there after. Well, atleast the part about hamachi as a service will, not sure about the gHamachi method (never used it).

I am having a similar problem. When I get to step 1.D.1 I can run the command "sudo hamachi-init -c /etc/hamachi" (using a terminal window)

all it does is drop down the prompt. example:

user@machine-name:~$ sudo hamachi-init -c /etc/hamachi

just returns...

user@machine-name:~$

up to this point everything seemed to be working fine. I am running the Gutsy gibbon version of xubuntu. Is there som pre-requisite that xubuntu does not have that the standard ubuntu does?

Maybe I just don't know what I am doing, which is totally possible, but I am stuck. Once I get hamachi installed I can't get the single user base configuration setup. When I do hamachi-init from the hamachi folder nothing happens.

I was unable to get moto4lin to connect with my v3a. For over a month I've tried to connect to it with moto4lin, bitpim, and kmobiletools. I did however find an alternative way. I am running fiesty and installed gnome-bluetooth so now with my usb bluetooth adapter I can send photos, vids, and even send my own rintones to and from my v3a.

Xubuntu (and Ubuntu) Gutsy 7.10 also works with: 'cd /usr/bin' and then 'sudo upx -d hamachi' after running the 'make install' part of the other steps here(you may have to apt-get/download upx but it seemed available in the base 7.10 Xubuntu install).

Just an FYI for anyone reading this, I have an older V3C and I had to MANUALLY edit my moto4linrc file, which, strangely, was in ~/.qt

Change the AT product ID to a bogus number like 2222 or 1234, fire up sudo moto4lin, and it will finally see the phone.

HOWEVER, it won’t do anything with it, as it doesn’t find anything that’s on it. But this is my phone - other people might find that moto4linrc is their solution, so I’m posting this message.
